If you’ve tried your skill at our Brand or Bull quiz, you’ll probably agree there’s a blurry line between real and fake brand names in modern marketing. If you haven’t played it yet, we think it’s worth a 2-minute break from your other work.

Our quiz was built for fun more than anything else—we had fun making it, and we hope you had fun taking it. But there’s something else timely and relevant under the surface here. Catchy names and logos aside, brands are regularly inspected by audiences for their authenticity.

Prospects and customers have always honored brands who show authenticity, and in 2018 the public will have even more ways to test a brand’s realness. Social media, review aggregators, industry watchdogs, user-generated content, and an increasingly influential blogosphere are revealing aspects of brands that even a few years ago might have gone under the radar.

For some brands, this will spell trouble. But for brands with nothing to hide and much to showcase, a lot of content from these third-parties will translate into valuable earned media.

If you’ve been following DKY long enough, you know that Ring True is more than a tagline, mission statement, or even a brand promise—it’s a compass that directs all of our work.

We believe that transformational marketing is anchored in truth and speaks with distinction and authenticity. You know it when you see it because it Rings True.

So have fun with our Brand or Bull quiz. And if you think it’s worthy, help us by sharing it with a colleague who might have fun with it, too!
