DKY is not your typical brand communications agency. Our mascot is a squirrel. We live and thrive in the bold North. We are unassuming and loyal, sometimes to a fault. We are DKY.
At the end of the day, what makes working at DKY more than a job comes down to two things: people and purpose. In our Ring True Spotlight Series, you’ll get to know who we are and the purpose that drives us.
Meet Mike Dobies, an executive creative director and a partner at DKY, who has been serving our clients, leading creative work, and contributing to DKY’s strategic growth for nearly 30 years.
How does your role help support our clients?
Our clients are looking for creative solutions to accomplish their business objectives. Good ideas can originate anywhere from anyone. However, identifying the right creative approach that best fulfills a client’s business strategy is a combination of art, science, and experience. I try to keep our talented team fresh, curious, and connected to ideas, trends, and new learning. The work we do is fun, but not easy. Satisfaction comes when our hard work pays off with creative tactics that “ring true” for our clients and their customers.
What is your favorite aspect of working at DKY?
I wake up every day thankful to be working with great friends who are like family. And we work together to help great clients who have become friends.
What trends or changes are you seeing in the marketing industry?
I love campaign taglines, but I’m not impressed with how many brands today are using nouns as verbs, such as “Change the way you pizza.” You’ll hear and see brands doing this more often than you think. And now that you’re aware of it, I hope it bothers you too. I feel a blog post coming on.
DKY has five core values (Ring True, Serve People, Be Trustworthy, Live Generously, and Spread Joy). Which one is your favorite?
My job is focused on #1 – helping brands ring true. But my favorite is #2 – serving people. Life is too short and everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. We need to take our work seriously, but not ourselves. I want clients to be impressed with our work and with how we conduct ourselves and treat one another in the process.
What is your dream vacation?
I am an avid traveler and have yet to get to the one place I’ve always wanted to go: Bora Bora. Just Google it. Enough said.
