DKY has an immediate opening for a Director of Public Relations

DKY is an established and growing brand communications agency in Minneapolis. The Director of Public Relations will lead and develop this important agency discipline, serving clients in DKY’s primary verticals: manufacturing, agribusiness, outdoor recreation, and faith-based non-profits.

This position requires an experienced and strategic PR professional who consistently delivers results. You must be an experienced practitioner who thrives on problem-solving, team building and driving measurable impact for DKY clients.

A collaborative leader and teacher, the new PR Director will work closely with DKY’s account, creative, digital and social media teams to maximize integration and effectiveness of client engagements.


  • Deliver expert guidance and strategic PR solutions for client and agency marketing communication plans
  • Work closely with the social media, digital, and account teams on plan development, presentation, execution, and measurement/reporting to maximize effectiveness and ROI
  • Develop and implement engaging content, media relations, and communications plans that meet client objectives
  • Drive and support all aspects of media relations: identify target media, monitor editorial calendars, develop editor relationships, pitch story ideas, prepare subject matter experts, coordinate interviews, develop bylined editorial content, and monitor coverage
  • Drive and support all aspects of speaker placements: identify key conferences, monitor submission deadlines, collaborate with subject matter experts, write/manage abstract submissions, and consult on presentation content and assets
  • Write or supervise assigned writers on all editorial content required for plans, including technical articles, white papers, how-to articles, case studies, research summaries, blogs, etc.
  • Work with DKY creative directors to determine if projects require a content writer, a marketing copywriter, or both—and coordinate deliverables such as video, photography, and infographics to complement copy
  • Participate on the DKY marketing committee and lead communications strategies that elevate the agency’s thought leadership—including editorial calendar planning, blog post writing and editing, and media placement
  • Support DKY new business development, ensuring best practices and strategic thinking for the agency’s PR discipline are represented in presentations and proposals


  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or Public Relations
  • Excellent journalist who applies the AP Stylebook or Chicago Manual of Style, but also has versatility to write in other conversational styles
  • 8+ years of experience in corporate public relations, marketing communications, or content marketing, including team management experience
  • Portfolio demonstrating a variety of writing styles and formats (blogs, news releases, publications, video scripts, etc.), as well as news media placements from recent media relations efforts
  • Research, interviews, and synthesizing skills typical of an excellent reporter and the ‘news nose’ of an assignment editor in recognizing and acting on timely story angles
  • Technically minded and dogged about engineering accuracy, legal requirements, and other client parameters
  • Able to quickly get up to speed in new concepts in unfamiliar industries and become the expert who can phrase things more clearly and concisely
  • Able to assign, supervise, and edit other writers for technical accuracy while developing their expertise as ongoing resources for specific clients
  • Experience with traditional media relations as well as the use of social media in strategic media relations and marketing
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; trustworthy with client relationships, and possessing superior political and diplomatic judgment
  • Comfort working within DKY’s core verticals: outdoor, B2B, agribuisess and faith-based organizations


  • Experience with a PR or marketing agency
  • Experience in the sectors of B2B industrial manufacturing and agri-business
  • Accreditation by the Public Relations Society of America
  • Knowledge of basic video production, graphic design principles, and other creative-side processes and talent sets


  • Full Time Salaried Position – compensation based on experience and qualifications
